Quotes
One of my kids has been studying with him for six years now. His fund of knowledge is amazing - he can take someone with no experience and give them a thorough grounding in performance, technique, and theory.

About Phillip Zweig

I'm a musician and scholar first, then a guitarist. The guitar just happens to be the particular instrument I choose. The guitar can sound like a wolf howling in the wilderness, or an orchestra in miniature. Music as a language, discipline, and art, is the goal. As an artist, I'm active as a performer, teacher, composer, and researcher.

Withstanding a few significant interruptions, I have been studying music since I was fifteen years old. Since my mid-twenties income has come exclusively through music; teaching students, performing as a guitarist (classical, jazz, and popular styles), enjoying occasional arranging, composing and other creative opportunities. I've always been interested in different styles. I had such a strong desire to learn that I sought out some of the better known teachers in the field. I finally found my first great teacher relatively late (late twenties) with Ted Greene, and after him, Ricardo Iznaola.

I have a bachelor degree in fine arts from SUNY at Buffalo, and a Master's Degree from the University of Denver where I served as a teaching assistant in classical guitar, and also as adjunct jazz guitar faculty. Upon completion of a doctorate, I'll seek a program where I can teach classical and jazz guitar, theory/composition, and jazz studies. This degree will mark the end of formal 'studies' and the beginning of professional activities informed by the doctoral process. I will continue to perform, teach, research, and compose.

Currently I run a teaching studio in Chandler, perform throughout the valley, and attend ASU. I have also recently released a CD of six original songs titled "Book of Psalms."
