Guitar Lesson Testimonials

"Phillip has taught two of my kids to play guitar. One of my kids has been studying with him for six years now. His fund of knowledge is amazing - he can take someone with no experience and give them a thorough grounding in performance, technique, and theory. He keeps it fun and interesting for the kids by letting them learn songs that they choose, while also exposing them to all kinds of musical styles. His sense of humor and patience keeps the kids motivated. The performance classes offer a great forum for students to acclimate themselves to public performance. My kids have gained an incredible amount of skills, knowledge, and confidence from their studies with Phillip. Everything about our experience with Golden Guitar Studio over the past eight years has been outstanding. I highly recommend it!" - Margy Frank, Wheat Ridge, CO

I found Phillip searching the Internet for a guitar instructor. What made him stand out from the others, was his impressive resume and accomplishments. I'd played the guitar since I was a teenager (now in my 40's ) without any formal training. Most teachers just taught songs. I played mostly rock music, but always had an affinity towards finger picking ( i.e. Rik Emmett for any of the 80's rockers out there).

I decided to study classical music with Phillip. What a world he has opened up for me to explore. No longer am I just playing notes, but actually analyzing pieces - using phrasing, dynamics, and adding color to each song. The best instructor I've had, it's been almost 2 years and I will continue to take lessons until...............................................................................

"I've been taking lessons from Phillip for six years—I started when I was ten. He was really cool, not scary at all. I started learning tons of stuff right away. When I was ready, Phillip had me join his performance class—that's where you really learn to get over the fear of playing in front of other people. That's been really helpful. Now I'm in a band and we play gigs and I sing and everything. What's been really great is that I learned not only how to melt people's faces off with my guitar, but how to write my own music to melt people's faces off. Phillip taught me how to be a musician, not just a guitar player - Logan Frank, 16 years old

I wanted to try Phillip as a teacher, because I gathered from his profile on Take Lessons that he has the academic knowledge and the experience credentials of a pro.I wanted to learn from someone who is an expert on guitar and who has a relaxed, yet focused and thoughtful teaching style, and that's what I've found. It's impressive to me that he has the credentials that got him accepted into the guitar Doctoral degree program at ASU. I also find Phillip to be a patient, engaged teacher who puts thought into his lessons before them and into his responses during lessons. He takes the time to suggest even the subtle things that you can do as a student to improve. Now, that's engaged teaching.I'm so enjoying discovering the science and art of the guitar and music in a relaxed, fun learning environment. - Heath S.
