About Phillip Zweig

I currently reside in Chandler, Arizona.  I am a ‘doctoral candidate’ at ASU, majoring in classical guitar performance, with the third recital and final project still to complete.  I gig in a variety of situations including solo classical guitar, classical ensembles, jazz combos, and bands that play popular styles.  I serve as adjunct faculty for South Mountain Community College, and have a small studio in Chandler, where I teach private students of all instruments, ages, levels, and styles.

The artistic model I follow requires the pursuit of performance, teaching, research, and composition.  Interpretive and improvisational knowledge and skills are both important and pertain to music as a universal language, applicable to any instrument.  All genres are viable and worthy of attention.  This is a path of knowledge that embraces the physical, emotional/psychological, intellectual, and spiritual elements.

My philosophy of teaching is to help the student learn the language of music, and at the same time, become their own teacher.  This involves helping them acquire the tools and means to achieve their musical and life goals.  It is about the growth and development of the entire person.  The musical language is universal and applies to all instruments, ages, levels, and styles.
